Feeding the Hungry in Our Community
MCCORR has joined other church partners to support the Downtown Cooperative Church Ministries (DCCM). The food donations we gather throughout the year have been instrumental in helping to offer emergency food in a convenient location and are easily accessible. The generosity of MCCORR and the other DCCM churches each week provide over 200 families emergency food provisions. The standard size bag supplies enough food for two individuals. Our church collects any canned food item, soap, shampoos and other needed items each week and we have volunteers at DCCM. Our volunteers see the face of poverty and hunger. We know our generous donations of food provisions are truly needed and genuinely appreciated. Thank for your continued support.
MCG Offers HIV Testing At MCCOR
The Medical College of Georgia - Ryan White Outreach Team will be offering free, confidential HIV testing at MCCOR during Sunday services every 4th Sunday of the month thereafter. The team uses Oraquick® Advance, a rapid HIV test that requires no blood and gives a negative result in 20 minutes or lets them know that further testing is needed in their lab. The CDC now recommends that everyone age 13-64 gets an HIV test yearly.
Since 1996, the MCG Ryan White Outreach team has provided free, confidential HIV testing, education, counseling and treatment referrals at testing sites throughout the Aiken-Augusta area. The team is supported through a Ryan White Part C Grant, which provides funding for early intervention services and treatment. Since 2004 they have been using the MCCOR community room as a place to meet and test individuals who wanted a private testing location. They also test in the community room on the third Saturday of most months from 11 am to 2 pm.
The mission of the MCG outreach team is early intervention. Early detection and early treatment is the key to living with HIV/AIDS. Thanks to advances in treatment, those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS can now live long and productive lives, if the receive proper, regular treatment. The only way to know if you are infected is to be tested. HIV may be in your system for years with no symptoms. During this time the virus is not only harming you but can infect the ones you love.
